I was fortunate enough to began my formal music education in my early childhood with Piano lessons at the age of 4. At this time in my life, music was a discipline which I lacked the perseverance and patience to excel at, however it was these lessons which provided the foundation for all my musical knowledge as I learned to read music, and began to develop aural skills and a love for classical music.
I began flute lessons in 2009 as part of my school’s instrumental program which allowed me to apply the knowledge I had gained from my piano lessons and I eventually fell in love with not only the instrument, but its expansive repertoire, and in particular pieces from the Baroque period. This love for music was only intensified when I was accepted into the primary school audition choir in 2011, which took my love of singing and began to build the foundation of my vocal technique, and fostered my love of choral music. My music education continued into my high school years, during which I began formal singing lessons, and joined all the band and choir programs my school had to offer, and began mentoring the Junior School choral groups, which first sparked my interest in becoming a music educator.
In 2018 I completed my HSC, achieving a Band 6 in both Music 2 and Extension Music. I credit this achievement largely to all the incredible music educators I was fortunate to learn from, each with their own teaching style and methods. Currently, I am teaching at Abbotsleigh School for Girls as part of the school’s Music Mentee program for past students who are studying music at a tertiary level, which allows me to work in a relevant field to my study, but also continue my music education under the mentorship of my former teachers, who advise, guide and encourage me with their own knowledge and experience.
